Congregation Kodesh v’Chol (established in 2010), located 6 miles southeast of Tel Aviv, was founded by Rabbi Galit Cohen-Kedem.

We are a young, diverse community from all over the city of Holon, which voices pluralistic and egalitarian values, promotes liberal Judaism, social and environmental responsibility, and is part of the Israeli Movement for Progressive Judaism.

Our community members come from a variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds, mostly young families. In a city of approximately 200,000 people, Kodesh v’Chol serves as the only egalitarian liberal alternative.

This is what we do:

  1. Our community holds Kabbalat Shabbat services that combine Jewish tradition with modern-day Hebrew and Israeli music and poetry in an egalitarian and progressive manner. We study Torah and celebrate and mark life cycle events.
  2. Our community runs a government public school educational track for Hebrew Culture studies for over 200 students in Holon aged 3-12. Tarbut Ivrit (our educational track) instills values of social justice and compassion, non-violent conflict resolution, Jewish literacy and activism.
  3. We are a volunteer based organization run by three professionals: our Rabbi, our executive director, and program director. The members of our congregation (160 family units) are deeply active and enterprising in numerous innovative ways to help strengthen a liberal, democratic Jewish society in Israel.

Changing Israel from the ground up:

After 6 long years of fruitless red tape with Holon’s City Hall, the Israeli court recently issued a judicial verdict ordering the city hall to allocate land for the construction of the first-ever Reform center in Holon. Since 2020 we have been collaborating directly with the city’s architect and legal team to finalize concrete building plans.
