HaNahal” –The Amutah for Anthrophosphical Education in the Upper Galilee

Who are we?

We are a community of families living in Israel’s Northern Upper Galilee who are committed to providing a quality, alternative education for young children based on the educational philosophy of anthroposophy.  Here, in Israel’s geographical and social periphery, we offer an early childhood education using a holistic approach to developing creativity, initiative, social responsibility, and moral awareness.

Our programs:

Founded by a small group of dedicated parents, Amutat HaNahal established the first Waldorf preschool in Israel’s Northern District in 2018.  Today, the not-for-profit parent cooperative preschool program is the educational home of some 40 children (aged 1.5 to 6 years old) in three classes who come from nearby kibbutzim, settlements, and cities in the Northern region.

Our educational philosophy:

Our preschool ascribes to the Waldorf educational philosophy known as anthroposophy. Recognizing that young children live primarily through their senses and learn best through imitation, we believe in providing gentle, yet sensory-rich environments and play-based activities that encourage the young child to investigate the natural world, explore social relationships, and expand imaginative capacities.  Our programs emphasize the importance of nature and our children spend time outside daily with nature walks or visits to the nearby Hasbani River.  As every community adapts the Waldorf philosophy to its local culture, our program includes celebrations of Jewish holidays and life-cycle events.

How can you help?

We are seeking like-minded partners who can help our non-profit accomplish our mission – to secure permanent housing for our program and enable us to offer our unique, quality education to more children in Israel’s Northern District.
